Quick Review: RMK Creamy Polished Base

RMK Creamy Polished Base in 01

According to RMK:

Made with a blend of three powder particles in different sizes and shapes to cover all kinds of unevenness on the skin surface. Its creamy texture delivers an even and moisturizing veil, leaving your skin supple within and a polished half matt touch on the surface. Choose from 00 to filter for a perfect translucency, and 01 or 02 helps to brighten the complexion.

My Thoughts:

The packaging, like all RMK products is simple and fairly sleek. I chose the shade 01, which is said to give the skin a brightening effect. 01 is a very pale pinky beige with shimmer particles. When the base is applied and spread, it turns a little translucent. The texture is fairly thick for a base, and if I wear foundation on top, it can feel a little heavy and my face feels slightly overloaded with product. I did find the product to make foundation stay on a little longer.

The creamy polished base can be worn alone, on top of moisturiser (my preferred method of use). If does give the skin a brighter look. I also really like the finish which is radiant and dewy.

Sadly, this base did irritate my sensitive skin a little, so would be careful when using it in the future. Or I may return it. I bought it in Selfridges which allow for makeup returns if you have an allergic reaction to it.

Cherry Blossom FOTD III

... Using Nars Gaiety.

To continue my annual tradition of spring Cherry Blossom inspired FOTDs, today's look uses a lot of pinks.

I used pink shades of my cheeks, lips and even a little on my eyes.

Nars Gaiety is my latest purchase. I've been trying to resist this blush for the last month, but finally caved and bought it. I'm glad I did as it's a beautiful blue-based light pink. It's matte in the pan, but has a subtle glow once on the cheeks. I love the high quality of Nars blushers.

I used the light beige and pink shades from the Lavshuca palette that the lovely Riya sent me. I really love the shades in this palette, such lovely soft colours.

Lastly, I used Guerlain's Rouge Automatique in (aptly named) Cherry Blossom on my lips to complete my very pink, spring Cherry Blossom inspired look.

New RMK Pressed Powder N SPF10 Review

Hi everyone! Here's my review on RMK's Pressed Powder N SPF 10, which featured in my Naturally Nude FOTD.

I'm a big fan of RMK's base makeup. I loved the dewiness of their Powder Foundation EX. It'a rare to find a powder that gave the skin a really nice radiant glow. At the moment however, I'm constantly on the lookout for the perfect loose/pressed powder that I can just wear on top of moisturized skin to give me a more flawless look, but with a great glow.

I loved the Dior Capture Total High Definition Loose Powder, but it was a bit on the chunky side to bring with me on my travels. When RMK's new Pressed Powder was released at the end of last month, I was very excited to try it out.

My Thoughts:

The powder was housed in the usual RMK silver box.

The packaging is a slightly chunky (but small) matte silver box with two layers.

The first layer houses the pressed powder, and the second layer twists open to reveal a drawer containing a portable flat brush. I purchased the powder in shade 01 (pale white) from my favourite store, Selfridges. Pale pink (02) is for those who want a slight pinker complexion, and pale blue (03) is for those with slightly red complexions who want to tone down the redness.

The narrow strip of powder in the middle has a pearlescent finish, which I really like. It's not too shimmery or glittery at all. I find it a lot more subtle in shimmer than the pearlescent strip of the RMK Powder Foundation EX.

Shade and Coverage:

This shade is suitable for those with fair skintones. As it's designed to be used over foundation, coverage is very, very sheer - less than Dior's Capture Totale High Definition Loose Powder (review can be found here). The oil control of this powder is minimal. I love the fact that it contains SPF, but I wish it was a little higher than SPF10. Makeup items don't usually contain high SPF anyway.

Finish:

The finish is amazing! It gives a lovely glow to the skin without looking too shimmery. I find most powders either too matte or too shimmery, but this one's perfect.

Pros:

-contains SPF10

-did not irritate my skin

-light coverage

-gave skin a gorgeous dewy glow

Cons:

-oil control not as great as other pressed powder formulas

-RMK difficult to find outside Asia (in fact, I think the only place outside Asia to stock RMK is the UK)

-very pricey at ~£30

RMK Face Powder EX Review

Hi everyone, I briefly mentioned in a previous post the new RMK Face Powder EX. Here is my quick review on it:

According to RMK:

"Contains a highly transparent 'Snow Leaf Powder' to blend into the skin leaving a natural veil over open pores and dull tones. 'Micro Bead Powder' infused, it can also absorb excess oil for the perfect finish to last all day. The powder blend is then processes under the [wet grinding] method that brings a rich cream texture for the 'second skin' fit. #N00 for porcelain glow, #P00 for a lucent shimmering glow. #01 and #02 for a half-matte lifting complexion."



I bought the powder in #02, and here are my thoughts on the product:

-#N00 and #P00 were a little too shimmery for my taste. #01 was a very light shade (almost white), and the shade of #02 fits me perfectly

-It contains SPF 10 and comes with a small powder puff that felt soft and luxurious

-To obtain the powder, you have to press the puff into the rubber net and turn anti-clockwise. This grinding method means that you cannot use a brush to apply the powder, just the powder puff that comes with it

-The powder itself is very fine and silky. It provides low coverage

-I found it to have really good oil control, whilst still giving my skin a nice subtle translucent glow

-The ingredients list containes the controversial parabens. Parabens are controversial as they are found in extremely low concentrations in breast cancer tumours. They can also cause skin irritation. Due to this, I am unlikely to use this product often as I normally avoid parabens like the plague.

As you can see, my skin tone looks a little uneven, so the powder on its own gives only a little coverage.

Pros:
-Contains SPF10
-Great oil control
-Silky soft, fine powder
-Easy to apply
-Gave skin a nice 'soft focus' effect

Cons:
-Contains parabens
-Packaged in quite a bulky case
-Due to grating system, limited to applying this with only a powder puff

I have recently bought RMK's new Face Powder EX from Selfridges. This model has done a very convincing ad campaign! I know that photoshop may have something to do with this, but her complexion looks gorgeous!

The Face Powder EX comes in four shades:

#N00 No colour type for porcelain glow
#P00 Translucent type for shimmer glow
#01 Lightly tinted translucent type to deliver half-matte finishing
#02 Same as 01, but a darker shade

#N00 and #P00 both contained shimmering particles, though in #N00 the shimmer was more subtle. Shades#01 and #02 did not contain any shimmer, but still gave the skin a glow. Shade #01 was an extremely light shade (almost white), so I chose #02 which suits my skin colour perfectly.

I haven't used this product enough to give a review on it, so I decided to post up some pics of it instead, and do an FOTD with review at a later date.

The powder is packaged in the usual silver RMK box.

The powder case is fairly chunky, but the pale matt silver colour makes it look quite sleek.

The powder comes with a sweet, and very soft powder puff. A grinding method is used to get to the powder. The puff is pressed into the rubber net and turned anti-clockwise to collect the right amount of powder. The powder itself is extremely fine and lightweight.


Sadly because the powder is so fine, and due to the small amount of powder that comes out with each grinding method, I can't provide a swatch of this powder. It looks almost invisible on the skin, so I'll do a FOTD with the powder on so you can have a better idea on what it's like.

My Japanese Makeup Collection

As alot of us love Japanese beauty brands, I thought I'd share with you part ofmy Japanese makeup collection that I have accumulated so far.

I haven't included my Paul & Joe items in this post, and my collection has increased somewhat after my trip to asia. Above, I have a couple Jill Stuart blushes, Canmake cream blushes, RMK cheeks palette, and a Kose Esprique Precious Symphonic eye palette.

As you can see I'm a pretty big fan of blushes (especially sweet, pink colours!), but lets start with the eye palette. I got the palette in F1.

It contains 4 eye shadow shades (glittery white, peachy pink, glittery lavender & dark shimmery grey), and a pearly cream base

It comes with a suggestion of how/where to use each colour:

These colours are higly pigmented, and a bit too glittery for my taste. The colours are really pretty though, which is a shame!

Onto the blushes. I have a couple of Jill Stuart blushes in Rose Fairy 11, and Little Bouquet 09

A cheek palette with fresh and bright colours. The white highlighting powder is a bit too powdery and matt looking for my taste.
