Hi everyone. I know Nude lipsticks are a nightmare to get right. Especially with my skin tone, they tend to make me look washed out and slightly ill. Most nude lipsticks don't actually enhance my face, but make it look worse. So when a nude lipstick comes along that looks great and actually brightens my complexion, it's such a rare occurrence that I must rave about it.
The lipstick in question in Estee Lauder Pure Color Matte Lipstick in Nude Velvet.
This is part of their new limited edition range of matte lipsticks. I don't know why, but I just love the texture of a matte lipstick. Matte lipsticks ARE drier than normal lipsticks, but somehow I like the velvety feel on my lips. Maybe because I can feel the lipstick, I am reassured it's still there and not rubbed off?
This colour differs from traditional nudes in that it has a certain 'peachyness' to it. The colour isn't a flat brown nude, but a beautiful nude with a slight peach-pinkness to it.
On my arm, I must admit the colour does look fairly brown...
But the colour looks lighter and peachier once actually on the lips. Sorry for the dry looking lips!
I'm in love with the shade of this lipstick, but I have to say this lipstick does accentuate dry lips (as you can see in the above pic). So I would recommend getting rid of any dry flakes (try scuffing them gently with a wet toothbrush) before use.
Pros:
Beautiful light peachy-pink nude colour
Feels velvety soft on the lips
Cons:
Matte lipsticks are a little drying, and accentuates dry lips
Limited Edition
Colour may be a little light for some
*Can any of you help me by recommending a good blush shade to go with this lipstick?*

ReplyDeleteI love this nude peachy color! I think your lips are still moisturized for the fact that you used a matte lipstick. :) nice review!

ReplyDeleteSo pretty, I saw this on another blogger and it was already on my list! I'll be this lets the focus be on your gorgeous eyes :) I bet MAC Buff would be a good pairing because they're describing it as "soft muted pinkish-peach." I have it in a set and it looks tan in the pan but lovely on :)
ReplyDeleteI love matte and i love nude lipsticks.I need this! <3 looks great on you! :)
ReplyDeletelovely matte nude lippie!:)
ReplyDeleteLove that color! This would look so good with a smokey eye. I might want to try this out...
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely!! I unfortunately can't pull off matte lipstick, but it looks so nice on you, you have such lovely full lips!! I think for blush bright pink wouldn't go, but maybe more a tiny bit of bronze pink to contour the cheek bones? Do show us a look you come up with!! :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I saw the handmade make-up bag you sent NicNic, you are so, so, so talented!! It looks really amazing!! xX

Nice Sweetie...
It looks very pretty on you....! I know exactly how you feel about nude lippies on olive undertone Asian skin...I try to look for warm nudes which are easier to work with on my skin.
ReplyDeleteHi Penelope. I have the same issues with most nude colors totally washing me out. My favorite 'nude' lip gloss also has a pink peachy tone to it so I think this color will also work for me. Thanks for the review love.
ReplyDeleteI love nude lippies too but it's definitely hard to get right. This looks like a lovely shade!
ReplyDeletesuch a beautiful nude, it really fits your skin ^^
ReplyDeleteLong time no see :c just checking up on you, keep it touch ;D

It looks beautiful on you, at first I thought it would've been dark but it turned out nice. Too bad its too drying and I do see it from your swatches. I suppose if you put a lip balm first, then it wouldn't be too dried. Perhaps, a soft baby pink blush would match with the lipstick or a light bronze, that's just me. =)
ReplyDeleteLove the colour! So lame that it dried out your lips though.

ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous nude shade Penelope! I would to see you in complete look with this lipstick <3
ReplyDeletewhat happened to your costume?? I'm sure it was a bad as you think!
the lippie looks gorgeous with your skin tone? found a nude HG lipstick?
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks stunning! You have really nice lips. :) And it's very flattering on your skin tone.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to suggest perhaps something like Penny Lane from NARS might go nicely with that colour... unfortunately it doesn't have the best texture :/ but it's a great nude pink! I think you should home for that kind of colour to pair with your lipstick ^^
ReplyDeleteI think it's a nice shade for you.:D

I hate the drying effect of matte lippies :( But this looks lovely on you! Have you tried the new Canmake lippies? They are semi matte and just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love the color. It'd be so perfect if it doesn't dry out your lips. I think MAC mocha or gingerly would look pretty good with this. Or if you want something even more bronzer or neutral, shu uemura b brown 76 would look really great too :)
ReplyDeleteEstee Louder is really good make up brand. See a lot of interesting about make up and beauyt.
